“One of my proudest moments at Poly was during our 20th anniversary of our Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness initiative. Two students spoke about their mother and her battle at a silent Middle School/Upper School assembly. I was so proud of these boys putting their personal lives out there, but also I was so proud of our Poly community for their support of them and this family.”

In 2020, Patti Tycenski celebrated 25 years teaching at Poly Prep. Patti, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in exercise physiology from Temple University, first came to Poly as Fitness Center Director. Over the years, she served as health teacher, Grades 7 and 8 advisor, Upper School advisor, the Middle School’s first Grade 6 dean, and health coordinator. Patti played a large part in tweaking Grade 6’s Camp Poly, a community-building experience during which students stay overnight at Poly. She directs the formation of our annual human Pink Ribbon on the Oval in support of Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness and is there to help haul cages out of the East River with Grade 6 as part of the Billion Oyster Project. Patti teaches Middle School health classes and runs the leadership program Health Interns for Grade 12. In 2005, Patti was awarded Poly’s Spirit Award. The Spirit Award is presented annually by the Alumni Board of Governors to a member of the faculty or staff who embodies the values and spirit that Poly seeks to represent as an institution and encourage in its students.”
